Godavari River Sailing Expedition(25 Aug - 07 Sep 2009)

          The AP NCC Directorate nominates one of the Naval unit every year to compete for Most Enterprising Naval Unite (MENU).  This year 8(A) Naval Unit NCC, Vijayawada was detailed and therefore the expedition was conducted by the unit from 25 Aug to 07 Sep 09 starting from Chinturu in Khammam District to Samalkot in East Godavari District along the east banks of River Godavari.  Two Whaler boats with Thirty five Naval NCC Cadets and one Gemini took part in the expedition and covered a total distance of 411 Km.

          During the expedition the Naval Cadets were exposed to nature’s beauty and creation.  The cadets got an opportunity to interact with locals all along the route and know about their culture customs and tradition.  The Sailing in the boats provided ample opportunity to Naval cadets to develop their sea legs, the spirit of adventure, comradeship and hard work which can best be imbibed when struggling against natural elements.  The expedition has successfully inculcated the qualities such as team spririt, risk taking ability, camaraderie in the cadets which would help them for their self development in all walks of life.

          The desired aims of the adventure activity were successfully achieved during the expedition as given below:-

 (a)       To enable 8(A) Naval Unit NCC, Vijayawada to qualify to take part in MENU (Most Enterprising Naval Unit) competition.

 (b)       To provide opportunity for Naval wing NCC Cadets and staff to experience adventure sailing in river.

 (c )       To provide opportunity for Naval Wing NCC Cadets and staff to know about customs, traditions and culture of locals and visits to historical places along the route of sailing.

 CYCLE EXPEDITION BY NCC GROUP GUNTUR (13-21 Nov 2009)

            As  part of NCC adventure activities NCC Group Gnntur planned a Cycle Expedition covering a distance of 500 Kms over 10 days time. The last such expedition carried out by this Group was in 2007 and the cadets of the Group were  longing to have such an adventure activity age. The aims and objectives of the expedition were:-

 (a)       To  inculcate sprit of adventure among the NCC Cadets of Guntur Group.

 (b)       To spread awareness .among people about various evils plagueging the society.

 (c)       To spread message about Global warming and the importance of afforestation.

 (d)      To spread information about Blood donation in partnership with an NGO called  Friends 2  support org.

          Route. The route selected was Guntur – Mangalagiri – Tenali – Bapatla – Chirala – China ganjam – Ongole – Addanki – Narasaraopet – Sattenapalli – Amaravati  and Guntur

       The expedition was planned in such a way that it would arrive on the NCC Day at the District Police Parade Ground coinciding with the NCC Day celebrations.  Accordingly it was planned to commence the expedition on 13 Nov 2009.

      The expedition was flagged off by the Group Commander Col ASN Rao on 13 Nov 09 at 0830 hrs from the Group HQ in the presence of Media,Officers and staff of the Group.  The flag off ceremony was widely covered by the Media .Prior to the flag off  Lt Col GVB Sai Sankar OIC of the expedition briefed the audience about the aim & objectives and route of the expedition. The  expedition team was supported by one Nursing Assisistant,one Lascar,one canter vehicle as ambulance,one canter carrying cook house and cycle repair Kit.  The expedition team was self contained for food and night halts were organised after every 50 Kms at NCC units/Institutions that fell enroute All the expedition members carried placards on their cycles with various slogans derived from the aims & objectives of the expedition.  The canters had big flexis hung on either side advertising the cycle expedition. Some of the places of interest visited by the cadets are,Panakala swamy Temple Mangalagiri,Bapatla Beach,Old age home at Ongole,Hanuman Temple at Addanki,Siva Temple at Kotappakonda and  Krishna river at Amaravatii.

     The expedition progressed very smoothly as planned and arrived at the Police parade ground to a warm welcome by the VC,other dignitaries  and the  public Witnessing  NCC Day celebrations on 21 st Nov 09 at about 1100 hrs.  The team was commended by the VC, Professor Hara Gopala Reddy and were given mementoes by him.
